A shop and a pub are both short drives away for a meal out or any essentials. The Steading is only five miles from Castle Douglas, Scotland’s renowned “Food Town”, known for its artisan bakeries, local produce markets, and fine dining at places like Mr.

Nine miles to Kippford, a picturesque seaside village with charming pubs, sailing opportunities, and access to the Sandy Hills to Rockcliffe Coastal Path, one of Britain’s finest coastal walks. Visit Threave Castle, a dramatic 14th-century fortress on an island in the River Dee, accessible only by boat.

Discover Carlingwark Loch, a scenic circular walk with wildlife hides and marshland boardwalks. Enjoy outdoor adventures like hiking Screel Hill or cycling the Dalbeattie Forest trails, part of the 7Stanes mountain biking network.
