About Shore House

Famous for the oysters that have been harvested here since Roman times, Whitstable offers a fabulous combination of coastal beauty, maritime history and a vibrant arts scene that will satisfy every appetite. Sea-sourced delicacies are served at many of the town’s restaurants and pubs, and can be bought fresh from harbourside stalls to cook at home.

Head to the harbour, too, for an open-air showcase of locally created goods and fine art, or take a boat ride to explore the Kent coastline – trips to see seals and the Maunsell Sea Forts depart daily. Alternatively, enjoy leisurely strolls along the beach.

Just moments from this holiday hideaway, the shingle shoreline is a prime spot for watching the sunset, while nearby Tankerton is backed by grassy slopes and, at low tide, has rock pools to explore. Further afield, Canterbury and its iconic cathedral are just 7 miles away.

Private parking on the doorstep means you can unpack at a leisurely pace. Leave your coats and shoes in the hallway, stow your other outdoor gear in the utility room, and you’ll find the ground-floor bathroom especially handy when you need to freshen up after a trip to the beach.

Take the stairs to the first floor, where you’ll find a light and airy lounge with a calm, neutral colour palette and, at one end, patio doors that frame the unhindered view of the sea and open onto a private balcony. Adjacent to the lounge, the kitchen/diner has sleek cabinetry, ample space to store all your self-catering supplies, and a dining suite with elbow room for all.

When it’s time to sleep, two similarly styled bedrooms are on the second floor; choose between a king-size and a twin – both have their own en-suite shower rooms. The balcony off the first-floor lounge area is a perfect spot for sea views and people-watching, while the fully enclosed courtyard garden at ground-floor level – accessed directly from the utility room – offers more space and privacy for sunbathing and al fresco dining.
