As soon as you step into the cottage, you’ll notice the superb Cornish slate floors in the kitchen/diner; contemporary lighting and pastel shaker-style units create a unique blend of the old and new.

Dine at the table together among fresh decor before heading up the stunning stone staircase to the first floor. Exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and a crackling open fire make the lounge a haven to curl up in after a long day of exploration.

Gaze out at the estuary views before the sun goes down, then get comfortable and watch your favourite show on the Smart TV. Get the kids off to sleep in the twin room, where neutral tones promote a deep slumber, before you enjoy a soak in the coastal-style bathroom with shower over the bath.

When you’re ready for bed, head up to the second floor where estuary views, vaulted ceilings and a gorgeous king-size bed will ensure you get a great night’s sleep. The National Lobster Hatchery (350 metres) is not to be missed, while the Padstow Museum, just around the corner, is ideal for a rainy morning.

Take the children for a tractor ride at Trevathan Farm (14 miles) or take keen birdwatchers to the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre (7 miles). You can’t go wrong with any of the beaches in the area, including Constantine Bay (4 miles), Harlyn Bay (4 miles) and Polzeath (15.5 miles).
