Alternatively, stroll through the cobbled streets of Clovelly Village (5.5 miles), appreciating its quaint, whitewashed cottages and working harbour as you go.

Or head to Welcombe Mouth (8 miles) to explore this superbly secluded pebble beach backed by high cliffs. A stunning waterfall flows directly onto the shore after the rain.

Further afield, try your hand at surfing at Widemouth Bay (17.5 miles). Pull up in your private parking area (there’s room for two cars) and step inside your characterful two-storey retreat.

Head to the country-style lounge and make yourself at home by the stylish electric fire. When it’s time to eat, make your way to the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner to whip up some of your favourite dishes.

Enjoy a sociable dinner in light-filled dining area by the large windows. At the end of the day, head upstairs and you’ll find three beautifully-styled bedrooms – a generous king-size, a double and a twin.

The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room, while a smart family bathroom with a bath and a separate shower serves the remaining bedrooms. Step outside and you’ll find a private patio complete with seating and a private hot tub.
