Take a stroll up to the National Trust’s A la Ronde (1.5 miles), a unique 16-sided house that was built for two spinster cousins in the 18th century.

For something a little grander, cross the estuary over to Powderham Castle (13 miles) which is full of medieval intrigue. Sunbathe at Dawlish Warren Beach (16 miles), a stunning beach that stretches down from Warren Point to the 15-metre-high red sandstone Langstone Rock.
