Sleeping five, this characterful cottage in the Brecon Beacons offers a brilliant base for families with up to two dogs. With fantastic features such as exposed beams, stone, and original wooden flooring, this property will charm you from the moment you step inside. What's more, a whole host of outdoor activities await, including walks, water sports and whimsical picnic spots at Llangorse Lake (5 miles). At the heart of the home is the spacious living room/diner, which is a warm, welcoming space filled with two sumptuous leather sofas. The oak beams overhead and wooden floors add to the traditional feel of the property and create a cosy space for relaxation. There is also a six-seater dining table where you can gather for family mealtimes.

About Mawr Dew Cottage

The oak beams overhead and wooden floors add to the traditional feel of the property and create a cosy space for relaxation. There is also a six-seater dining table where you can gather for family mealtimes.

Adjoining the room is the kitchen which has pretty views of the countryside that can be enjoyed whilst you cook up a storm. The first of the bedrooms is a pretty double room with a low window with a quirky design whilst the second room features three single beds, ideally suited to children.

The cottage has a shower room on the ground floor, as well as a bathroom on the first floor for convenience. Outside, the courtyard features a table and chairs for a spot of al fresco dining during sunny weather.

You could spend time soaking up the scenery at Tretower Court and Castle (3 miles), a marvellous medieval manor house with a great little cafe. Challenge yourself to an active adventure and scale the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain (13 miles) where on a clear day, you will see Pen Cerrig-Calch, the River Severn, the Forest of Dean and Pen y Fan.

For a more relaxing afternoon, visit the pretty towns and villages within the national park, including historic Crickhowell (7 miles) and the beautiful book town of Hay-on-Wye (14 miles).

Cantref Adventure Farm offers hours of indoor and outdoor fun for the whole family. Inside there is a huge soft play area with a separate area for toddlers as well as ball pools, climbing frames, slides and chutes. The Cannon balls are a big hit with children of all ages. New for 2010 is the Badgers quest interactive maze. Outside there is a play area, large boating lake with paddle boats, nature trails with clues and quizzes and an agility course. At only £29.00 for a family of 4 the park offers outstanding value for money.
Lama Trekking at Old king Street Farm - NP16 6AA

Lamas are gentle, affectionate and unique animals and Lama Trekking is fast becoming a popular family attraction. At Old king Street Farm you can spend the day with the charming creatures and enjoy feeding them, grooming them and having a stroll through the woodland. Lamas are not ridden but they can carry all the picnic essentials including tables and chairs! Lama Treks around the stunning Black Mountains are also available. 
Rhondda Heritage Park - CF37 2NP

Rhondda Heritage Park is located at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery and is a popular attraction with a range of facilities including a visitor centre, an art gallery, a gift shop, and a lovely period re-constructed Village Street.  Fully guided tours are available and include multimedia presentations as well as a unique trip underground where visitors will experience the life of a coal miner. The site also boasts a children's play area and an underground experience zone.

Puzzlewood - GL16 8QB

Puzzlewood is a somewhat unique attraction within the beautiful Forest of Dean. Visitors can explore the mile of pathways passing over wooden bridges and through some stunning tree and rock formations. The maze of pathways are quite enchanting and the site has recently been used as a location for the BBC1 production of Merlin. While enjoying the splendour of nature there are many types of wildlife to meet along the way including Shetland ponies, Donkeys and Highland Cattle. A Hocus Pokus Halloween event takes place from the 24th to the 31st of October.
