Tucked in pristine hillside gazing out upon rolling farmland across the breathtaking Elan Valley, near Rhayader in Powys, you will find the three-bedroom holiday hut of Hares View. With a whimsical facade featuring a large, round entrance, a well-appointed interior with wooden and brick décor, along with fantastic facilities including outdoor seating, a fire pit, and a hot tub, this delightful dwelling is a perfect base for a family or group of friends, as well as Tolkien fans, looking for a unique escape to gorgeous, rural Wales.

Make your way into your lovely new lodgings, where you will discover a wonderful open-plan living space complete with a fully-equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar where you and your loved ones can tuck into your tasty, home-cooked meals, and a sitting area with a corner sofa and wall-mounted Smart TV that invites you and your loved ones to kick back and relax as you plan the rest of your getaway. When the sun goes down, head outside into the garden space where you can enjoy a relaxing dip in the hot tub as you take in more of your outstanding countryside setting as the starry nighttime sky begins to appear up above.

When you grow tired, head back inside to refresh with a shower on your way to settle in for a much-needed sleep in one of the three inviting bedrooms, including a king-size with direct patio access. Enjoy a getaway like no other in Wales when you book Hares View.

This was the second time we have stayed at Hares View. It is very cosy in a beautiful location and a great base for walking in the Elan Valley.

Beds very comfortable and clean. Kitchen area well equipped but only enough seating for five around the breakfast bar .. Although advertised for 5 adults it would have been useful to maybe have a fold away stool. Also were able to bring our 2 dogs obviously there will be dog hair ,we cleaned as best we could with the dust pan and brush, could have done with a mop and small vacuum cleaner. The bathroom was great,the shower very powerful and hot water plentiful. The sitting area was un comfortable,I think because of the sloping roof and back of sitting area was low.Theres a lose paving stone outside the bedroom with the door, the hot tub was great a good size and hot water,a nice position. The whole area could do with larger signs as would like to know where and where you can walk,also signs for the accommodation not easy to read from the road

The concept is amazing, and the views incredible. However, so many things let the place down and therefore would not return. I am sorry I hadn't read previous reviews that all say the same. Unfortunately Sykes make it very difficult to view more than one review on the place. The windows and door frames were caked in black mould and were soaking wet, the cupboard housing all electrics had water gushing out of it and did not look safe. Nowhere to store clothes, food or wet clothestowels after the hot tub. We were given two manky old towels for 5 people, I called the owner to ask for more and no response, rang again and left voicemail but noone called back. The system of entry whereby you turn up and ring them for the key code seems ludicrous when they don't answer the phone for 30 minutes or ring you back. The front door didn't close properly and assume why the whole frame is covered in mould, the doormat soaking wet, flooring was all lifted up, creaky and all slanted. The house was not flat but all leaning. The pipework underneath meant that when you had the heating on, it was scolding hot in certain places and could not walk bear feet. Our hot tub and WIFI stopped working, I assume they turned everything off thinking people had gone home at one point we were the only ones there. Like I say, the concept is great, but sadly owners don't seem to give two hoots once they have your money about answering phonecalls and rectifying issues.

Clun Castle is a ruined Welsh border castle on a rocky mound beside the River Clun, on the edge of the small, picturesque town of Clun. Founded shortly after the Norman Conquest, it still has its tall 13th century keep, which unusually sits on the side of the mound, along with extensive earthworks to wander around.

Tip: Wear sturdy footwear as the grounds have steep slopes and uneven ground; there is a free car park next to the castle, with toilets, reached by a footbridge with steps.

Hay Castle is a medieval fortification with a 17th-century mansion alongside, right in the centre of the book town of Hay-on-Wye. Founded by the Normans and rebuilt in stone around 1200, it has been attacked and burnt several times over the centuries.

Tip: Use the large public car park off Oxford Road, which has free electric vehicle charging points. Dogs must stay on a lead, and are welcome on the ground floor, in the café and in the grounds.

Aberystwyth Castle is a Grade I listed fortress on the Ceredigion coast, begun by Edward I in 1277 during the first Welsh war. It was built as a diamond-shaped concentric castle, with a twin-towered gatehouse and towers at each corner, and was finished in 1289.

Tip: Bring a windproof layer, as the castle sits right by the sea and the Welsh coast can be breezy and wet.
