Picture it. Sand still in your boots from a morning on Summerleaze, a log burner ticking behind you, and steam rising off the water as the light goes pink over the fields. That’s the evening you’re booking. The catch is that very few lodges sit inside the town, so the best ones are tucked into the villages and woods within ten miles, a handful just over the Devon border.
We think that’s a bonus.
We’ve searched our listings for Bude lodges with hot tubs and picked six we’d book ourselves, from a cabin in the woods to a chalet with views over the Atlantic. All six are dog friendly. You’ll also find which beaches let dogs on in summer, the free tidal pool and what to check before you pay a deposit.
Where are the Bude lodges with hot tubs, exactly?
Think of it as three rings. In the town you’re mostly looking at houses and cottages in Bude, which is why so many searches for lodges in Bude end up on holiday parks. A step out, Marhamchurch, Kilkhampton and the hamlets around Widemouth Bay have lodges and chalets with their own gardens, 2 to 6 miles from the sand. Further inland, around Whitstone, Clawton and Woolsery, you swap the seaside for woodland, lakes and real quiet.
A holiday park is the other route, for a more luxury feel with on-site facilities. Bude Coastal Resort, for example, runs several “Pet” lodges with private tubs. If you’d had your eye on Ivyleaf Combe, its website says it’s closed for redevelopment throughout 2026 and plans to reopen at Easter 2027.
One tip when you search: some agencies call a hot tub lodge a “spa” lodge in the listing name, so check for both words.

Dog friendly lodges and the beaches near Bude
Here’s the part people get wrong. Cornwall Council restricts dogs on some of Bude’s best-known beaches in summer, but only in the daytime, and several sandy coves nearby are open to dogs all year.
| Beach | Where | Dogs in summer |
|---|---|---|
| Summerleaze | Bude, the main town beach | On leads 10am to 6pm, 21 May to 30 September |
| Crooklets | Bude, north end | Not allowed 10am to 6pm, 15 May to 30 September |
| Widemouth Bay (main beach) | South of Bude | Not allowed 10am to 6pm, 15 May to 30 September |
| Black Rock | Southern end of Widemouth | Welcome all year |
| Northcott Mouth | Just over a mile north of Crooklets | Welcome all year |
| Sandymouth | National Trust, north of Bude | Welcome all year, lifeguards in peak season |
| Duckpool | Further north, near Morwenstow | Welcome all year |
Times and dates are from Cornwall Council’s dogs on beaches page, with the all-year beaches from local guides. Check the signs on the slipway too.
Outside those months the coast is yours. October to April is when a Bude holiday in a lodge really earns its keep: empty sand, big seas, and somewhere warm to sink into afterwards. Our guide to dog friendly lodges with a hot tub and enclosed garden has more on keeping a dog happy on a break like this.
A free sea pool, canal walks and wet-day plans
Swim in the sea without the waves. Bude Sea Pool was built into the rocks at Summerleaze in 1930 and is topped up by the tide, about 90 metres long and 45 wide. It’s open all year and free, kept going by a local charity, so drop something in the donation box. Dogs can come on a lead but not into the water.
Then there’s the canal. Follow the towpath out of town to Helebridge, where two humpback bridges cross the river and the canal side by side. A 2.2-mile walk on the South West Coast Path site takes in an old inclined plane and Marhamchurch, right on the doorstep of the first lodge above.
Rain coming in off the Atlantic?
- An indoor pool. Bude’s leisure centre has one, and Sandymouth Holiday Park, less than a mile from Sandymouth Beach, has an indoor family pool.
- Clovelly. The car-free fishing village is close to the Woolsery stay.
- The tub itself. Rain on your face while you sit in hot water is half the point.
What to check before booking your stay
- Private or shared? On a park, check the hot tub is your lodge’s own.
- Dogs and the water. Most owners say no dogs in the tub. Hair clogs filters fast.
- How many dogs? “Dogs welcome” often means one or two.
- Outdoor space. Not every garden is fully enclosed, and livestock are close.
- Parking and lanes. Lanes around Kilkhampton and Whitstone are narrow, so allow longer than the map says.
Is a lodge near Bude better than a cottage in town?
For most people, yes. You trade a five-minute walk to the beach for a garden, a tub nobody can see into and darker skies. If you’d rather walk to the sand, look at Bude hot tub cottages in the town itself. If you want a pool, a bar and a kids’ club, the resorts are the better bet.
Fancy something different? Our hot tub inspiration guides cover lodges, huts and glamping.
However you plan it, these six put this whole coast within a short drive. Have a look at the rest of our holiday cottages in the South West, or start a fresh search for a hot tub cottage anywhere in the UK.
