Dovedale Lodge is a wonderful, single-storey retreat set in the heart of the Lake District National Park, near the small village of Troutbeck Bridge. Boasting on-site facilities, a toasty electric fire, serene lake views of Windermere, and a bubbling hot tub, this well-equipped lodge welcomes family and friends, idyllic for a relaxing countryside getaway.
Inside, you will find a charming open-plan living space, where the designated chef can get to work in the kitchen, meal times can be enjoyed together around the dining table, and you can look forward to sinking into the sitting area afterward. Here, you cuddle up with your loved ones and spend your nights watching movies on the Smart TV as the electric fire provides the perfect backdrop for quiet nights in.
After a day by the lake, head through the lodge to discover two pleasing bedrooms: a king-size with a convenient en-suite walk-in shower, and a family room with a single and bunk bed, so sleepy heads can catch their night's rest. In the morning, freshen up in the family bathroom, where you can indulge in a bath or rinse off in the overhead shower.
On warm summer evenings, step outside and make the most of your privet decking. Dine alfresco-style on the furniture provided, or savour a dip in the hot tub, all while the beautiful lake of Windermere glistens in the distance.
White Cross Bay is in one of the most lovely settings on the shores of Lake Windermere, with jetties and a marina and views of the magnificent fells all around. On the Park itself, there is a bar and restaurant with an outdoor seating area, a picnic area, and a children’s play zone.
A short distance away up the main A591 is Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre, with a great way to spend a day with gardens, house, café, restaurant, walks, boats, adventure playground and Tree Top Trek: there’s lots to do. You’re also just two miles from bustling Windermere village with shops, cafes and pubs, and three miles from Bowness boat landings, where the elegant cruisers come in and you can hop on a boat trip and enjoy this cosmopolitan village with award-winning restaurants and pubs and quirky shops, a cinema and the ever-popular World of Beatrix Potter attraction.
This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
