Waun Yscir is a charming countryside cottage tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Merthyr Cynog near Brecon, Powys. Surrounded by rolling countryside and just a short drive from the breathtaking Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, it’s the perfect place to slow down with your family and friends.

Step inside and you’ll find a beautifully designed space with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The kitchen is well equipped for home-cooked meals, which you can enjoy in the homely living and dining area, complete with a crackling woodburning stove and a TV for quiet evenings in.

There’s also a handy utility room with a washing machine to make longer stays even easier. The two bedrooms, a comfortable king-size and a twin, offer a place to rest those sleepy heads after a day of exploring.

The king-size bedroom treats you to lovely countryside views, where the morning light spills over the fields and the hills stretch out beneath the wide, ever-changing Welsh skies. Waking up here feels like breathing in pure peace.

With both a bathroom and a separate wet room, there’s plenty of space for everyone to freshen up in comfort. Outside, the large enclosed garden is a real highlight.

With a mix of lawn, gravel, and patio, it’s perfect for alfresco dining, morning coffee in the sunshine, or a long soak in the private hot tub under the stars. On a clear day, the sweeping views are simply stunning, blue skies arching overhead, birds wheeling in the distance, and nothing but green hills as far as the eye can see.

Cantref Adventure Farm - LD3 8LR
about 8 Miles
Cantref Adventure Farm offers hours of indoor and outdoor fun for the whole family. Inside there is a huge soft play area with a separate area for toddlers as well as ball pools, climbing frames, slides and chutes. The Cannon balls are a big hit with children of all ages. New for 2010 is the Badgers quest interactive maze. Outside there is a play area, large boating lake with paddle boats, nature trails with clues and quizzes and an agility course. At only £29.00 for a family of 4 the park offers outstanding value for money.
Dinefwr Park and Castle - SA19 6RT

Dinefwr Park and Castle is the perfect place to come if you like the great outdoors. These stunning ruins are one of the areas most iconic landmarks and are surrounded by breathtaking scenery and wildlife of all descriptions. There is also a 17th century mansion to explore with grand rooms and wonderful exhibits of paintings and tapestries. The gardens feature amazing floral displays and there is also a delightful Tea Room. Children can let of steam on the adventure playground.
Lama Trekking at Old king Street Farm - NP16 6AA

Lamas are gentle, affectionate and unique animals and Lama Trekking is fast becoming a popular family attraction. At Old king Street Farm you can spend the day with the charming creatures and enjoy feeding them, grooming them and having a stroll through the woodland. Lamas are not ridden but they can carry all the picnic essentials including tables and chairs! Lama Treks around the stunning Black Mountains are also available. 
Rhondda Heritage Park - CF37 2NP
about 28 Miles
Rhondda Heritage Park is located at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery and is a popular attraction with a range of facilities including a visitor centre, an art gallery, a gift shop, and a lovely period re-constructed Village Street.  Fully guided tours are available and include multimedia presentations as well as a unique trip underground where visitors will experience the life of a coal miner. The site also boasts a children's play area and an underground experience zone.
