For a rustic Welsh experience, book a stay at this charming stone cottage, located on a working farm in the lush Dulais Valley. You’ll be surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open skies and just outside the friendly village of Crynant (0.5 miles), home to a chippy and a welcoming pub (1 mile).

With six guests accommodated across three bedrooms, it’s wonderful for families or groups of friends planning a peaceful break in the countryside. This welcoming abode features a warm and stylish interior that blends rustic character with modern comforts – think oak floors, wooden beams and shuttered windows, all wrapped up in a soothing palette of natural tones.

The kitchen/diner sets you up for cooking sessions and sociable meals, with a range cooker for the designated chef and a large dinner table. In the spacious and bright lounge, a toasty wood burner nestles within a huge stone fireplace – ideal for snuggling in front of the Smart TV after a day outdoors.

Upstairs, you’ll find a beautiful double with an antique French bed and en-suite, plus two lovely twin rooms and a family bathroom. The private patio outdoors is wonderful for enjoying BBQ dinners or sunny breakfasts, while the shared spa facilities are also a real bonus – they include a large indoor heated pool, a sauna and a hot tub with views over March Hywel Mountain (spa time is shared with one neighbouring cottage, with private sessions alternating between mornings and afternoons).

Kids will be in their element letting off steam in the shared outdoor play area. Parking for four cars gives you ample space.

Nearby, you’ll have excellent mountain walks and pretty cycle rides right from your doorstep. Head to the stunning waterfall at Aberdulais (3 miles) or check out the magical Dan-yr-Ogof showcaves (11 miles).

Dinefwr Park and Castle is the perfect place to come if you like the great outdoors. These stunning ruins are one of the areas most iconic landmarks and are surrounded by breathtaking scenery and wildlife of all descriptions. There is also a 17th century mansion to explore with grand rooms and wonderful exhibits of paintings and tapestries. The gardens feature amazing floral displays and there is also a delightful Tea Room. Children can let of steam on the adventure playground.
Rhondda Heritage Park - CF37 2NP

Rhondda Heritage Park is located at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery and is a popular attraction with a range of facilities including a visitor centre, an art gallery, a gift shop, and a lovely period re-constructed Village Street.  Fully guided tours are available and include multimedia presentations as well as a unique trip underground where visitors will experience the life of a coal miner. The site also boasts a children's play area and an underground experience zone.
National Botanic Garden of Wales - SA32 8HN

When the weather is nice this attraction is perfect as you can wander around and admire the superb range of exotic trees and shrubs.  They look different at different times of the year but one of the most popular times to see them is in Autumn.  With various events throughout the year such as Apple Weekend there is always something new to experience.  You can watch a 90 second film about this attraction on their website which is excellent.
Cantref Adventure Farm - LD3 8LR

Cantref Adventure Farm offers hours of indoor and outdoor fun for the whole family. Inside there is a huge soft play area with a separate area for toddlers as well as ball pools, climbing frames, slides and chutes. The Cannon balls are a big hit with children of all ages. New for 2010 is the Badgers quest interactive maze. Outside there is a play area, large boating lake with paddle boats, nature trails with clues and quizzes and an agility course. At only £29.00 for a family of 4 the park offers outstanding value for money.
Merlin Hill Centre - SA67 8BP

Merlin Hill Centre is a working dairy farm located deep in the Carmarthenshire countryside. Although not a petting farm the farm is still very family friendly with plenty of fun activities to keep children happy. The farm has a good sized play area and plenty of picnic tables as well as a Farmyard Heritage Centre where visitors can learn all about Welsh farm life and about the mystical Legend of Merlin. Get there early if you want to watch the cows being milked!
