Station House Reviews

Great property and very well stocked kitchen. Garden was well equipped so lots of meals outside and made good use of the provided gas barbeque Easily accommodated our group with a games room and very comfy lounge big enough for all of us. Garden was secure for dogs and we even managed a croquet tournament and malkey tournament! There is a secure dog exercise field at the property which we could book for free and which we made good use of. The property is, as the name suggests, is very close to the railway. The weather was hot when we were there so we had all the windows open and although we could hear the trains they didnt stop us sleeping. Zoe the owner was a very good and helpful host. Would recommend a trip to Shrewsbury and Attingham Park National Trust.

A lovely big house, ideal for our family get together. Plenty of space with rooms big enough to all sit together, grandchildren loved games room & garden. Kitchen very well equipped.
We had a lovely stay, everything we could wish for and more. Excellent property for all the family, children loved the games room, and the property was fully equipped with everything needed for a party of 9
Very clean and comfortable. Plenty of space for 10 adults, who all enjoyed the trains, and everything you could need for a stress free stay.
Patricia
Station house is very comfortable and roomy it suited our family get together very well. We had a weekend stay and walked locally one day visited Shrewsbury the next both delightful and with so much to see both in nature and the historic town. We all had a go at the air hockey shrieks of laughter! and spent long evenings around the dining table talking and taking our time, lovely to do that. The garden was perfect for the 10 and 8 year old also Nacho, the puppy. Thank you to our hosts for everything so thoughtfully provided.
Absolute fantastic place to stay kids really enjoyed themselves, the owners were really pleasant and helpful, would really recommend, cant wait to go back.
Louise
We booked a trip for 2 families at The Station House which consisted of 4 adults, 5 children and 1 dog. The house was lovely and spacious and we loved the location too. Would highly recommend for a large get together. We liked the trains whizzing by outside too! They did not bother us at all as came quite irregularly and were so fast that you barely noticed them.
What a fabulous find. This cottage was so lovely, the facilities were absolutely great for 10 of us plus a toddler. Location is perfect to get to Shrewsbury and probably other places but we were lucky with the weather so used the garden to sit out in. It has 2 ensuites and a family bathroom but also a downstairs toilet which isn't mentioned in the listing and is a bonus. The single beds weren't the most comfortable but that didn't spoil our weekend. The games room is a great family place too with a games console, table tennis table, air hockey plus numerous other things to entertain children and adults. The large family dining table was also perfect for us all to sit around and have a meal and a wine and cheese night. Really is a wonderful place to stay. Loved our long weekend here. We would definitely book this place again in the future.

Stayed with friends. We had 6 cars between us and there was plenty of space to park. Trains weren't an issue at all. House, was very clean, well stocked and had everything we needed we'd read there were no hairdryers on the list so brought our own, plenty of space to accommodate us all.
Lovely property for 10 people. All comfortable and works well in terms of space.
Station House was a lovely place to share with a group of friends. The village was interesting and there were many local places to visit, both towns and country The house was comfortable and incredibly well equipped. We had a great week thankyou
Tracey
The property was stunning and very spacious. Suited our needs perfectly with the added bonus of the trains running by the property to the amazement of one of our group.
Michael
Station House is a great place for our family to stay we've been twice now and may well be back. Thank you.
The house had everything we needed to cook and stay together as a group of 9 plus a dog! It was easy to find and everything went really smoothly throughout our stay, we even loved the fact the house was festively decorated. Thanks so much for a fab stay!!
Priscilla
We all fell in love with this beautiful home the moment we set foot inside. It was spacious, and equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. In addition to sharing the grownups' and kids obsession with trains which was not instructive, the kids also adored the game room. For 8 adults and 2 kids, the kitchen had everything we needed. On our final day it was sad to leave and will most certainly be returning.
Stefanja
Had a homey feeling to it. Was lovely and warm and everything people would need in terms of facilities, games room, crockery etc. even included ,though we did not know , were dog bowls and a collapsible dog crate. However we always took dogs with us. Only thing we were unsure about was where to put black bin as certain items could not be put in bin outside back gate. Great to have list of instructions etc in folder. Pub in Hang a Gate closed Mondays and Tuesdays so we went to Horseshoes which was excellent.
Jeremy
Lovely property with everything we needed for the stay provided, but looking a little tired and needed a good clean in some places with plenty of cobwebs! Entrance hall is very welcoming, especially when sunny, and useful for stripping off wet clothes after rain before moving into the inner hall, but loose cables could do with pinning to the wall. Living room was nice but the couches were too soft and difficult to stand up from, the entrance door was sticking, and the room could benefit from some table lamps. The main TV was only connected to wifi so main channels could only be reached through catchup. Bedrooms were clean and beds comfortable, but two of the shower trays were showing signs of age and use. Lovely large kitchen with plenty of utensils, cutlery, dishes, glasses, etc, and a good large fridge. One of the small units needs repair and spoilt the overall look, but otherwise the kitchen and utility are well stocked. It was very useful to know that Sainsburys and maybe others deliver direct to the door. The garden was a little overgrown and in need of some maintenance, but was fully enclosed, exactly what we needed for two dogs. However, the lights outside the back door appeared not to work which made it difficult when the dogs went out late at night. The noise from the trains was certainly no issue, especially as the line was closed from the second day! And the late night goods train only provided a background rumble. With a few minor tweaks and maintenance, Station House would be restored to perfection.
Station House was an excellent base for our family gettogether. It's spacious, wellequipped, comfortable and has plenty of parking. We were fortunate to have superb weather so made good use of the gas BBQ and the plentiful garden furniture. The owners, who live next door, were very helpful in getting a problem with the bathroom lighting fixed quickly. It was useful to have supermarkets just a few minutes away on the outskirts ofShrewsbury and there were plenty of place s to visit within easy travelling distance. We'd recommend this property to anyone wanting to holiday with a group of family friends in this beautiful area and children will love watching out for the passes trains!
We had a great time with 11 of us ranging in age from 1 to 74. Loads of space in the house and a good garden for the children to run around safely. Lots of interesting places to visit in the area too. We would happily stay there again.
Michael
Made to feel very welcome Well set up for dogs Thank you
Lesley
Lovely cottage and all very easy. Great facilities and lovely garden to sit in. My only feedback is that the kitchen could do with a couple of sharper knives
We all enjoyed our stay, nice size property for our group. Beds very comfortable. Says in info to clean BBQ after use but who ever used it previously hadn't cleaned it so we didn't use it. Owner said we didn't have to rush on day of departure which was great. Brought some plants from their honesty payment selection at entrance, all good prices. The trains make it an interesting stay. Maybe a little TLC is needed in places but theres nothing major as we all said we would return. Would have been nice if grass had been cut but we haven't had the best weather lately which maybe why?
Great time, we have 3 dogs between the families and it was a lovely place for all of us. Interesting places to see and visit in our long weekend break .
Elisabeth
Brilliant property home from home, fully equipped, clean, plenty of towels, secure garden, First class
Ample room for the ten people this property caters for. Even more kitchen equipment than expected. In fact, there was everything you could possibly want in a kitchen. Took the basics, washing up liquid, hand wash, toilet rolls etc. All provided. It's a spacious house with several reception rooms if you want to find some space to read etc. But a big enough living room to all be together. Big garden with the occasional visit from a pheasant. Set in the Shropshire hills, beautiful scenery and lots of walks. Trains were a bonus, two and three year old's sat at the kitchen window waiting for them.
William
Lovely stay here for a 60th birthday celebration. We were 7 adults & 3 children plus a couple of dogs. Walks nearby and well equipped home with superb games room made it perfect. I contacted Sykes cottages before visiting with some queries and had incorrect information. The house has plenty of tea towels plus washing up liquid dishwasher tablets although was advised by Sykes that there wasn't. Please Sykes update records otherwise totally spot on in evert way. Perfect location perfect house 100 recommend.
Andrew
Lovely house, perfect for family get away. The kids loved the play room. Lots of room for everyone. We will be back.
We were 8 adults, one child and one big Labrador staying for Christmas and furthermore our first Christmas together for 3 years! From the moment we stepped into the Station House we knew that we had made a good choice. The house was decorated extensively outside and in with lovely touches such as seasonal cushions, fireguard, table centrepiece and other ornaments and a huge real Christmas tree. Chocolates and a bottle of bubbly were a real welcome treat! The big porch area serves as an idea place for coats and shoes, especially our walking boots. The house is very dog friendly and there are extra dog bowls and a few accessories in the utility room. A large games room gives extra space where there are plenty of board games, Lego bricks, wooden train and other toys as well as an air hockey table and a TV with Xbox. The large and well equipped kitchen was perfect for preparing our Christmas dinner and the dining room big enough for comfortably accommodate us all. Upstairs the bedrooms where comfortable and spacious and included 2 ensuite rooms. Our 4 year old grandson was very happy with the toddler bed and there were 2 additional cots in other rooms along with extra stair gates. Although we did not need them it indicates the consideration the owners have made when equipping the house, offering plenty of choice for those with young children and babies. We note from previous comments that the adjacent train track can be a disturbance, especially at night. As we were staying over Christmas and there were train strikes we have to say there was no problem apart for the occasional rapidly passing commuter train. If we were to note any issues it was was the lack of a good carving knife among the cutlery, also the family bathroom lock did not work properly. We had a lovely time at the Station House and it has long been known to our Grandson as the Christmas House it truly lived up to expectations and provided a magical Christmas for all children young and old!
Suzanne
A really lovely property. It was spacious and homely and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There were also toys for the children Lego was a firm favourite with children and adults alike. The owner was friendly and helpful. Our 4 year old grandson is obsessed with trains, so this was like a dream come true for him! We would highly recommend this property.
A lovely place to stay, had everything we needed and helped created many memories
Mitchell
Stayed for a family weekend. Station house very comfortable and had everything you would need. The games room was a big hit with the four grandchildren especially the ice hockey and Lego. There was some train noise but children loved watching trains go by and wasnt too intrusive. also good value plants for sale from Mal the owner.
Our stay at Station House was good, plenty of space for 10 people, garden was definitely big enough for us and 2 dogs. The house is well equipped so we didn't want for anything. We knew there was a train line right next to the house as it's mentioned in the description but,,,, we didn't realise how busy it was. It's a main line from Shrewsbury to Cardiff with a high speed intercity train running regularly which shook the house. Trains were halted right outside the house a number of times which felt a bit invasive. If you love trains, this is the place to stay. We still had a good holiday though.

Myself and 8 other family members stayed here for 2 nights and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. House was beautiful, perfect size and we didnt feel cramped! Lovely large living room and large dining room table in the dining room, both of which seated all of us comfortably. Kitchen was very well equipped. Very dog friendly but at the same time didnt smell of dogs!! And no dog hair anywhere! Child gates were very useful we had no children but used them to keep the dogs downstairs. Bedrooms were lovely, 2 of which had en suites. And complimentary bottles of water at bedside were a lovely touch. Garden was beautiful with plenty of garden furniture and a BBQ. Also totally secure so dogs were free to run around safely! House right next to train track so you could see and hear the trains going past quite frequently which we loved! Beautiful views from the bedroom windows. I would definitely recommend staying here xx
Sheila
This is a wonderful property, everything we expected and more. There was plenty of space for us all and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was very homely and spotless and catered well for our family of 7 adults 7 month old twins and 3 dogs ! It was an amazing week and would definitely return. Sheila
We were in the Shrewsbury area to clear the house of my Uncle Jack, who died last year. Consequently we did not spend as much time in the house as we would have liked. But we thought that the house was absolutely wonderful and a fabulous place to sit down and relax after days spent cleaning and sorting! Thank you very much for the use of the house
Catherine

The owners were unbelievably helpful, polite and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Could not recommend the place more, will be coming back.
Michael
Station House was an excellent place for our family christmas, 9 of us. It was lovely and spacious and well equipped. We appreciated the christmas extras like the tree, crackers, chocolates and mulled wine etc. We walked to the village across the golf course and also to Lyth hill which was lovely.
Fabulous accomodation. The house was wonderful for our large family get together. So much space, comfort especially the beds with. The owners have thought of eveything home from home even had a slow cooker. The train line was never a problem in fact it was an added excitement.
