Smithy House Reviews

Joseph
Great property. Lots of space for everyone and the dogs also had a great time. Very scenic and we even saw some rabbits and hedgehogs in the garden! Definitely would be back and also very appreciative for the signs about minding your head as a clumsy lanky guy this helped avoid a few concussions haha!
Beautiful home away from home, had everything we needed for our weekend. Comfy beds, ample space and seating for us all and a cosy feel about the place too. We would have appreciated some more cleaning products as one tiny sink sponge and some floor wipes wasn't really sufficient for 7 of us but that's a minor detail. Overall it was an excellent weekend

We really enjoyed our stay at Smithy House. The property is comfortable, well maintained and ideally situated to explore the surrounding area. The hot tub was an added bonus, which the younger members of the group made the most of. The property had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. We are already planning to return again next year.

Fantastically located for exploring! Great cottage with everything you could need home from home! Very comfy beds & beautiful hot tub! Great garden for dogs. Only let down was the WiFi in the lounge but its a very old building with thick walls. Had to use my hotspot to use the TV. However, all round a great place to stay & would definitely recommend

Really fantastic place to stay, loved the space and garden great for dogs. Hopefully we can go back soon.
We had a lovely stay at Smithy House. Beautifully decorated and well maintained. It was perfect for us as a large family group of 4 generations plus a small dog. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, lots of space and the hot tub was amazing to relax in after a busy day. The WiFi wasnt great due to the stone walls within the property although some rooms better than others. We would love to return and stay again some time.
Fantastic property and an amazing host, the owners communication is great and she went the extra mile to ensure we had a truly good and peaceful stay. Genuinely could not ask for more.
This was my second visit to Smithy House in Currtherstown. The house is well equipped with everything we needed for a one week stay. The house was clean, beds had lovely white covers and were very comfortable to sleep in. The hot tub was used every night after an afternoon out and about in Annan, Dumfries and Gretna Green Outlet park. We went to the independent three screen cinema in Annan that I would highly recommended a visit to on a rainy day or at night. Our two dogs loved the back garden to run around in. We hope to return to Smithy House another year.
Had the best weekend place is immaculate and gorgeous! Will defo be back
We had such a lovely week at Smithy House , it was great to arrive and find fresh milk in the fridge , coffee , tea and Scottish Shortbread , a nice cuppa before we unpacked , theres adequate parking on the front of the house and also a space in front of a garage , the house is so homely , lots of beautiful personal touches , the Scottish phrases in the bathroom made us chuckle. Important stuff , kitchen had everything youd need to cook, the beds were very comfortable, my daughter loved the three bears and promptly named it Goldilocks room! Lastly what a lovely touch to wake up to a balloon outside by the hot tub on my birthday

Beautiful, comfortable well equipped cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with all the family to celebrate a special birthday. The kids had great fun in the hot tub ! Would definitely recommend a stay here and would come back again.

A fantastic cottage, with plenty of space for the number of guests advertised. The hosts are very accomodating and the cottage is well located for guests of a wedding at the nearby Kinmount House. We had an issue with the shower in the second bathroom, but we worked out that the heat of the shower is the opposite to it's dial, so turn to cold to heat the shower up.

We had a fab time at the Smithy House. I especially liked the hot tub. It has a decent sized garden for kids to run around in. The beds were clean and comfy. Our party had 6 adults, 2 kids, a toddler and a dog. There was plenty space for us all. The kids loved the dino park at the garden centre just a 5 minute drive away. Angela the house owner recommended having dinner at the Hetland Hotel which we did and it was very good. Again just 5 minutes up the road. Youll need to book in advance. We found Angela to be very friendly and helpful.
Staying at Smithy House was perfect. The house is very well stocked & very comfortable. We all had a fabulous time both in the house and visiting local attractions. Would definitely return again

Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 9 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 20 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 22 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 25 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
