Ghyll Lodge Reviews

Ghyll lodge was fantastic we have been to White Cross bay a few times but this was the best lodge by far. The position of the lodge was great and lovely and quiet. The lodge itself has a lovely decking area and a private area for the hot tub . Would definitely recommend and would love to go back .
Little bit disappointed, the lodge is in need of some TLC, the exterior is in need of treatment to the wood and also covered in cobwebs. The en suite shower was difficult to turn off and the base appears to have a leak, we didnt use it after the first day. We last visited eight years ago and I would comment the park has took a downward turn sadly, park rules ie hot tubs usage after 10pm , a crowd of male only in a nearby lodge were very noisy. Beautiful part of the country though.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this lodge and we love it. The beds are great and the new hot tub is great. We have booked for sept and October and we cannot wait. Thanks for letting us share your lodge Carmen
We are just back from a lovely holiday in the Lake District. White Cross Bay was the perfect base for us to explore. Gryll lodge was exactly as described and did not disappoint. On arrival it was lovely and clean with plenty of space for our family 3 adults, 2 teenagers and a dog. The veranda area was lovely for sitting out on and the hot tub was a huge hit with the kids. This was maintained everyday of our stay with the hot tub man coming each day to check on it. Having stayed in other places where hot tubs are not treated as well and the result being grim this was a pleasant surprise. What was a lovely touch is that even though the lodge is selfcatering there was the small touches such as bin bags, kitchen and toilet roll, tea towels and washing up liquid. There was even washing powder which helped greatly with unexpected washing! These little extras are not always found in selfcatering and made things a little easier during our stay. We didnt use the facilities at the park so I cant comment on those. We were told it would be 15 per person to use the pool etc but we knew this when booking. The kids were more than happy with the hot tub.
Ghyll Lodge is a lovely lodge settled in a quiet little culdesac surrounded by trees and other well kept lodges. Inside the lodge is modern, clean and comfortable. The hot tub is secluded and is a really nice treat after a long day exploring. The park has entertainment every night for kids and adults, with a small arcade and food served all day. The area is quiet but not out of the way. You can get open top buses from just down the road from the park that will take you too Ambleside, Windermere, Keswick and Kendal. Points for future guests 1. The lid of the coffee table in the lodge opens up and has a handful of games inside. We didn't know this until the last night! 2. The nearest big supermarket is in Kendal which is a 40 minute drive there and back 3. There is a nice Chinese takeaway in Windermere which is only a few minutes drive. It's called Magic Wok. 4. Good places to visit Brockmore Zip World, Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, Mir house and gardens 5. WiFi and phone signal is incredibly poor. Not good if you have children with you. Unfortunately the WiFi only allows timed sessions of only a few minutes and then throws you out. Sometimes you can't even get access. This is a Park Dean issue, but it's a real inconvenience, especially when looking for places to visit. 6. Make sure to walk down to the Marina on the park. It's a lovely little quiet area overlooking the lake with a view of the mountains Considerations for the lodge owners 1. The tiles in the bathroom near the sink look like they are loose or moving away from the wall 2. The inside door handle on the first set of patio doors is loose. 3. The kick boards in the kitchen keep falling down 4. If possible I would suggest installing your own WiFi connection. As this was the only downside of our stay 5. Leave a guest book so guests can read about other guests experience of the area and tips for staying in the lodge. Overall, the lodge is a really nice, clean comfortable place to stay. And the areas around are bustling with lots of activities. I would absolutely recommend the lodge, but only if you aren't too fussed about keeping connections either via WiFi or mobile signal.
Fantastic place to stay, only concern there seems to be a leak under the shower in the ensuite. Would highly recommend this lodge and we liked it so much weve already booked for next year. The hot tub was well used and brilliant after a day of long walks
We had an issue with hot water , someone arrived within 10 mins and quickly ... We had an issue with hot water , someone arrived within 10 mins and quickly sorted , accordion was fantastic , everything we needed and very clean , hot tub a great addition , again this was maintained very well

Overall a lovely stay but a few things that could be improved. The showers were poor and pillows need to be replaced. There was no filling in any of them. There was a lack of information in the lodge we had to look online as we had no heating for a day. We did not realise this needed to be switched on at the boiler. An information booklet would be good with more info about the site and local restaurantstakeaways. Some games would also be nice. We also had some cleaning issues old sweets in bedroom and dirty crockery. We also had a view of an unsightly skip and pile of rubbish next to the veranda from next door which is being worked on so some noise disruption.
We really enjoyed staying at this lodge. It is a great location for exploring, booths supermarket only 5 mins away, hot tub is fantastic, lodge has everything you need and v comfortable beds. Only negative was the water pressure which sometimes went to nothing but a dribble in the shower. I guess it is affected by the surrounding lodges as was better later on off any peak time. Still never a great pressure to rinse hair so decided not to wash hair again.
We have been going to white cross bay for a number of years and think that Gyll lodge was the nicest we have stopped in , it was like a home from home we were very impressed and definitely recommend it to anyone.

Wow wow wow! This cabin is gorgeous and the location is perfect. The beds are so comfy and big. We have re booked for New year and we cannot wait.

We had a wonderful weeks stay in Ghyll lodge. It had everything we needed and a well equipped kitchen. Beds were lovely and comfortable, especially the super king in the main bedroom. Hot tub was regularly cleaned throughout our stay by a maintenance service on site. Position of the lodge meant we were a short walk down to the lake but still close to the swimming pool and park for the kids. Lovely quiet spot! Would highly recommend booking, especially if you have a dog as the site is so dog friendly. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Ghyll lodge is a beautiful, well equipped, and huge holiday home. The whole place is homely, well maintained and has everything you would want for a relaxing comfortable holiday.
Barbara
Lovely comfortable clean property. Needs a bit of maintenance in the bathroom in onsuite as shower head falls down, also other bathroom shower head blocked in places and jets of water shoot the other way.We had a few days of rain which left all the out door furniture cushions wet Would be a good idea to have outdoor storage.
Super impressed with the lodge. We have stayed in a few around the Lake District and this is by far the best. We are already looking to book again. Thank you very much!!
Nicola
Just got back from a three night stay in this lodge! Everything went smoothly, the lodge was cleaned to the highest standard, had everything we needed! Hot tub was amazing! Would definitely recommend! Thank you
Stephen
The lodge was very nicely decorated throughout. It was perfect for our stay in the Lake District. The lodge had everything we needed and the beds were very comfy. I would definitely recommend. The hot tub was also lovely.
First time in this area and wasnt disappointed, lovely area and pleased with the lodge was comfortable, clean and had everything you would need.
I'm aware that the owner is conscientious and appreciates any feedback so I would like to advise the following, during our recent stay wc 2nd September. Lodge is really lovely and we would definitely return. There a some minor things however that could be improved. Overall cleanliness is 'Good' but on accessing the lodge we found 7 spiders some large in the loungekitchen and more in the bedrooms, there were a lot of ceiling cobwebs which could be avoided by using a feather duster after every stay, the bottom of fridge freezer and the bottom basket hadn't been cleaned and the kitchen cupboard next to it needed wiping. Although it is accommodation that allows dogs which we were very grateful for, the smaller bedroom had an odour which may have been due to dogs, maybe clean the carpets monthly? The inside of the window frame was also dirty and just needed a wipe. The hoover did also smell of dogs but I appreciate efforts have gone into trying to avoid this. Also we couldn't see a BBQ plinth which would have been nice during the hot weather, Hot tub was lovely. We would give the lodge 910 and rectifying the above would bring it up to a well deserved 10.

The property was absolutely beautiful, myself and my family had such a lovely time, I couldnt fault it one bit, the lodge was so well kept and it made it even better that there was a hot tub, which got checked every single day, I will most definitely be visiting again such great value for money and with beautiful surroundings what more could I of asked for x
The property was nice apart from a dirty tray and oven and hair blockage in the bath plug
We loved our time at Ghyll lodge. A beautiful lodge and beautiful setting. The lodge is spacious. A few suggestions a cheese grater, more plastic glasses for out on the decking there were 4 however 1 of them the bottom came off and another was cracked, more cutlery knives and forks and for someone who has never actually operated a hot tub before full instructions on how to switch the jets on etc would be great. This is only a few minor suggestions anyone who visits the lodge will not be disappointed! Highly recommend!
Victoria
Fantastic lodge really enjoyed it, would definitely return. Had everything there that you could need.
Rachel
Lovely property with all the amenities you need. We loved the hot tub. Great base to explore the Lake District. Only fault is that the bathrooms and toilets werent that clean on our arrival. I appreciate the time frame between one family leaving and the next arriving isnt long but the toilets and bathroom should be priority. I dont mind cleaning even when I arrive but just expected a better level in the bathroom and toilets prior to new guests arriving. The rest of the lodge was fine and we would recommend it on that basis.
Adrian
Ghyll Lodge is stunning! It is furnished so tastefully to a really high standard and is spotlessly clean! The beds are so comfortable and the bathrooms are amazing. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped and the dining table is simply gorgeous. Quite simply this lodge is out of this world and thats before you even step into the fabulous hot tub !! Cannot recommend this enough, cant wait to return !! Thank you so much.

Christine
We enjoyed our stay at Ghyll Lodge it was clean and spacious. The lodge was perfect for the hot weather we had. Enjoyed the use of the hot tub. Site was good too and enjoyed the facilities.
Lovely well maintained lodge. Hot tub huge bonus. Small recommendation but would benefit from airer in the storage cupboard, as nowhere to hang wet clothes after using the onsite washing machine. Stayed on White Cross Bay many times in different areas. This is the nicest lodge weve stayed in.
Sharon
Absolutely beautiful. Can we come back tomorrow please
Richard
Had a fantastic holiday, the lodge is very clean, modern and in good position. The decking wraps around the 34 of the lodge and has a jacuzzi but dog safe. The only thing I would say and this is not the owners fault or Sykes holidays but on 2 of the days we couldnt use the decking or jacuzzi because we were invaded by a decking company who arrived in 4 vans and 2 cars, parking everywhere when working on the lodge opposite 8am till late 2 days on the trot. They parked 12 inches from the decking staring directly at our deck playing loud music and swearing etc. we did ask at one point if they could turn the music down which they did but the noise and shouting was horrendous. I did ring Sykes on the day who were not made aware of the work and they contacted resort to try and get them to move their vans but it was late on. Like I said this was not the owners fault who you can tell takes pride in their lodge. On the plus side for customers in the future, there is no decking to be done around any of the close lodges as it looks like they have all be renewed. Will I return, yes as it is a lovely lodge and I do understand workmen have to do their jobs it was just the closeness of their vans and noise etc
Catherine
This lodge was exactly as the pictures show it had everything that we needed . The site facilitates were excellent will definitely stay again

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 15 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 22 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
