History buffs will enjoy a visit to Lanercost Priory (6 miles), which boasts one of Cumbria’s best-preserved monastic sites, or a trip to the charming market town of Brampton (8 miles) to pick up produce and mosey around its independent shops.

If you prefer a day in the big city, Carlisle is within a 16-mile drive. Before stepping into this cosy retreat, take a moment to appreciate its tranquil position on a working farm and the far-reaching views that set the scene for a memorable rural escape.

Head inside and find an open-plan living space soaked in natural light, combining characterful original features with modern comforts. Here, high ceilings, exposed beams and countryside views invite you to sink into the soft seating and flick through the Smart TV after days of adventure.

Nearby, the country-style kitchen features everything needed for cooking up holiday feasts with a view, which can be enjoyed at the wooden dining table inside or alfresco in the garden. At the end of each day away, climb the steep stairs to the mezzanine level above, where a double bed sits against an exposed stone wall and beneath the sloping eaves of the former farm building.

Completing the interior is a sleek ground-floor bathroom. Spill outside as often as possible and make full use of the enclosed garden.

Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 13 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 13 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
Go Ape Northumberland - NE48 1NT
about 27 Miles
Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
